Our mission is to rethink conventional veterinary medicine in a way that bridges gaps in care and honors our relationship with the planet and one another.
Our Story
According to the indigenous Kogi tribe of Colombia, “aluna” is the mind, the intelligence, and the spirit inside nature. The Kogi consider Earth to be a living and breathing entity like all of its inhabitants, and it is the duty of humans to care for Earth so that aluna can thrive.
Inspired by this ancient belief our company was born. We are a team of veterinary professionals and animal advocates who hold our role as guardian to the highest standard and it is through our own personal experiences that we recognize the need for a major paradigm shift in order to succeed.
Meet Teresa Schumacher
Co-Founder & Lead Veterinarian serving Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties
Dr. Teresa Schumacher brings over a decade of experience in emergency and critical care medicine, having worked in specialty hospitals nationwide after earning her DVM from UC Davis and completing a rotating internship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Her time in the ER showed her the gaps many families face in accessing veterinary care — transportation barriers, anxious pets, limited resources, and underserved communities. These experiences led her to create Aluna, a mobile veterinary service built to make high-quality care more accessible, compassionate, and community-focused.
Her medical philosophy is rooted in the One Health approach — understanding that the well-being of pets, people, wildlife, and the environment are closely connected. This guides Aluna’s daily practice and community outreach.
Although she has big dreams for Aluna’s future, she believes strong foundations come from starting local: one visit, one patient, one healthy outcome at a time.
Our Values
We strive to foster community, prioritize the principles of sustainability, and demonstrate honesty, transparency, and ethical behavior in all of our actions and decisions.
