Who you'll see
For urgent care, you'll see one of our primary vets — equipped to handle most same-day cases at home.

Medical Director
Dr. Teresa Schumacher, DVM
Ventura & Ojai
Background in emergency and critical care veterinary medicine. Before founding Aluna, she led urgent case management at specialty hospitals — the high-acuity work that trained her to assess quickly, act calmly, and know when home is enough.

Primary & Urgent Care
Dr. James Liu, DVM
Ventura & Ojai
DVM from UC Davis. Leads primary care at Aluna and handles same-day urgent cases. His background in both primary and urgent assessment makes him well-suited for situations where the line between the two isn't always clear on arrival.
Same-day home visits across Ventura, Ojai, and Santa Barbara.
Common questions
Before you call
If your pet is collapsed, having a seizure, can't breathe, or is bleeding uncontrollably — go to an emergency hospital immediately. For everything else that concerns you but isn't immediately life-threatening, urgent care at home is often the right call. If you're not sure, phone us — we'll help you decide in under two minutes.
Same-day visits for urgent care. Arrival window confirmed when you book — typically within 2–4 hours, depending on current demand and your location.
Yes. Many people who call aren't certain — that's part of what the visit is for. If something seems off and you'd rather not wait to find out, book a visit. The vet will assess what's happening and talk through what to do next.
During the visit
Most acute conditions that don't require surgery or imaging — infections, minor wounds, GI upset, pain, eye conditions, ear problems, skin issues, and more. If we arrive and your pet needs specialist care, we'll explain why and help arrange transport if needed.
We'll tell you clearly. We can treat a wide range of urgent conditions at home, but some require specialist equipment. When that's the case, we coordinate transport via our veterinary ambulance and stay involved with the receiving team.
